Ville de Luxembourg · App design and development
Being a capital, you have to set an example and inspire the future of a country. In 2020, the City of Luxembourg asked us to revamp the design and development of their mobile app. The objective was clear: better serve the residents, commuters, workers and travellers who interact with the wide offer of city services and activities.
Challenge
Many different people interact with the City of Luxembourg every single day and the mobile app is the hub to most of their needs. Providing a smooth and even user experience for everyone was a key success factor.
Solution
For a full immersion into the city, the map has been placed at the core of the experience. The main navigation invites you to discover what’s happening (Explore), how to get around the city (Transport) or to access useful information (Services). The home page is where you can make the city app your own. You can add any widgets you’d like: from your daily commuting journey to your street’s next waste collection, the weather forecast and a list of suggested events based on your preferences. Widgets cover almost everything you can find on the app. In short, they are shortcuts to what you really need.
One more thing
VDL’s web style guide has been extended with an illustration style to help the city communicate meaningful messages within the mobile app and in communication campaigns.
“Our brief was demanding – from the scope to the deadline – but Apart was up to the challenge. With a strong focus on the quality of the end product, their commitment and out-of-the-box thinking translated to designs that not only solved problems, but created new opportunities. Fresh, resourceful and ambitious, they are a no-fuss agency who love what they do, think big, think fast and then follow through.”
